SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

DUMBNESS, ADDED TO WOKENESS – FROM BREITBART:   President Joe Biden blamed law enforcement for fueling “distrust” in minority communities in his proclamation declaring Peace Officers Memorial Day and “Police Week.”  Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15, honors all of the fallen law enforcement officers, as well as Police Week to remember all of the sacrifices from officials and their families across the country.  The president’s statement released Saturday expressed “gratitude for the selfless public servants who wear the badge,” but included a lengthy paragraph raising concerns about the “distrust” that police had created.  The statement read:  "This year, we also recognize that in many of our communities, especially Black and brown communities, there is a deep sense of distrust towards law enforcement; a distrust that has been exacerbated by the recent deaths of several Black and brown people at the hands of law enforcement.  These deaths have resulted in a profound fear, trauma, pain, and exhaustion for many Black and brown Americans, and the resulting breakdown in trust between law enforcement and the communities they have sworn to protect and serve ultimately makes officers’ jobs harder and more dangerous as well."  You know, there's a time and a place, and there's good taste and bad taste.  The president didn't have to politicize a tribute to fallen police officers, but he did...because the leftist fanatics in his party demanded it.  We're hoping the elections of 2022 will send a good number of those fanatics packing.

THEY NEVER LEARN – FROM TOWNHALL:   The Department of Justice has hired former NSA attorney and top Russia hoaxer Susan Hennessey to work in the National Security Division. She announced the news on her Twitter feed Monday morning after deleting a number of tweets.   In her previous writing and media appearances, Hennessey pushed the Steele dossier, which was used by the FBI to illegally spy on the Trump campaign in 2016. Steele is a foreign spy who was paid by the Clinton campaign to put the dossier together, during which he used Russian and other illicit sources.   There is no shame on the Democratic left.

FIGHTING BACK – OVERNIGHT:  The revolt against WOKE teaching expands.  These people are patriots and volunteers.  From Epoch Times:

Hundreds of scholars, including some distinguished figures, have applied for positions at an online education startup that promises explicitly non-“woke” instruction in a number of academic disciplines.

Named “American Scholars,” the project was started several months ago by Matthew Pohl, former University of Pennsylvania admissions officer. As soon as word got out, résumés started to stream in from academics offering their participation, its leaders said.

Pohl described the project as the fruit of his gradual disillusionment with his career in the academic world, where he drove admissions at several prestigious universities. He noticed that with regard to education, most students weren’t getting their money’s worth, attributing that to the “administrative bloat” of establishment colleges, as well as the spread of quasi-Marxist ideologies that have come to be collectively known as “wokeness.”

He intends the project as an antidote to both. The interactive format of part-lecture, part-documentary video with quizzes, and feedback sessions will aspire to demonstrate that quality learning can be furnished at a fraction of the cost of a modern-day college. Meanwhile, the content itself will be rooted in traditional American values, in sharp contrast to the ideologies currently dominating most universities that promote hostility toward such values.

“There is a massive and unrecognized demand for actual professors, business leaders, real thinkers whom regular people can associate with and learn from to better understand how they can live better lives through the Constitution and through conservative values,” Pohl told The Epoch Times, later adding that the guiding principles of the project could be more accurately described as “classical liberalism.”

“We actually expect a significant number of people who do not identify as conservative to join us—simply because they agree with our values,” he said in an email.

COMMENT:  This is very good.  Please read the rest.  The educational revolt is spreading, but this is the first serious attempt that I've seen to create a new institution.  We'll follow the progress.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

I'M SO RELIEVED – FROM FOX:  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the White House issued Mother's Day messages on Sunday as some progressives crusading against gendered terms elect to use the term "birthing people" instead.  "Our mothers are our Guardian Angels, and we carry them always in our hearts, whether or not we are blessed to have them with us," Pelosi, D-Calif., wrote on Sunday. "Happy Mother's Day to you and your family."  "Moms have always built, shaped, led, and sustained this country — and we’re committed to fighting for the safe and equitable workplaces, affordable health care, child care, and equal pay that every mom deserves. Happy Mother's Day," the White House wrote on Twitter.  However, Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., and pro-choice group NARAL have emphasized the term "birthing people" in recent days.    I don't get the feeling that "birthing people" will catch on.  "Happy Birthing People Day" just doesn't have that ring.

ANOTHER CONTENDER TO CONTEND WITH – FROM BREITBART:  Former Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said on this week’s broadcast of “CBS Sunday Morning” that she was “absolutely” planning to run for president of the United States in the future.  On the basis of what?  She lost the governor's race by 50,000 votes, yet claimed that she really won.  No evidence presented.  Can we please return to the time when a presidential candidate had to have at least a few qualifications?  I mean, something?  Today the major qualifications seem to be the groups from which the candidate comes.  How many boxes does the individual check off?  Not a way to choose a leader, as we're finding out.

JUST WHAT WE NEED – OVERNIGHT:  A new, brilliant idea has surfaced.  A new force.  Army?  Navy?  Air Force?  Marines?  Coast Guard?  Oh please.  They're so yesterday.  Read on to see the future.  I know you'll be excited.  Stop laughing.  From Fox:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive lawmakers are calling for the creation of a 1.5 million-strong group of civilians to work on federally funded projects addressing climate change as part of their sweeping Green New Deal legislation.

Members of the Civilian Climate Corps would receive on-the-job training and work with community groups on initiatives to "reduce carbon emissions, enable a transition to renewable energy, build healthier and more resilient communities, implement conservation projects with proven climate benefits, and help communities recover from climate disasters."

The Civilian Climate Corps would fall under the purview of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent government agency that also runs AmeriCorps and other national service initiatives. The group would seek to employ 1.5 million Americans over five years, calling for coordination between the federal government and local organizations, including unions, according to a copy of the proposal.

The plan draws inspiration from the New Deal-era Civilian Conservation Corps, a public relief program established during the Great Depression that gave unemployed young men jobs relating to the conservation and development of government-owned rural lands.

"What we’re going to do is make sure communities like Flint, Baltimore, the South Bronx, St. Louis, rural communities whose infrastructure was never properly built in the first place, are first in line to rectify the injustices of the past and make sure they get everything they need to thrive in the future," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters when introducing the legislation alongside Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

COMMENT:  How long do you think it would take for the "Corps" to have its responsibilities expanded to enforce compliance with socialist policies?  How long do you think it would take for "progressives" to demand that financing for the "Corps" come from deep cuts in the defense budget?

I can see them marching in their smart uniforms, carrying their thermometers, singing their songs of allegiance to Barack Obama and AOC.  I can see them waving their 53-star flags, having brought in the new states of District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Beverly Hills.

Is this a nightmare?  Wake me.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
